EFL ESL Goodbye songs for children – my Top 10

My 10 favorite EFL goodbye songs

The songs and warm up you use to start every lesson are very important, but so equally are your Goodbye songs and routines. Kids love routine and it’s good to let them know that this song means that it’s the end of the lesson, time to put on jackets and get ready to go. It’s also a good way to put into practice some of the vocabulary you’ve learned in the lesson and remind them of it so it hopefully stays in their minds as they go home. You can use these songs with all age groups from preschool to teenagers and for all levels of English. So here are some of my favorite EFL ESL Goodbye songs for kids for the end of your classes to send everyone home singing and dancing.

Bye Bye Goodbye by Super Simple Songs

This is an absolute classic among EFL ESL goodbye songs for children. As always, Super Simple Songs do as they promise and have a Goodbye song that is easy enough even for the smallest kids. This song has simple words and actions and you can adapt it to actions that you have been doing in class. I also like to finish it by counting from 1 to 10. This might be difficult for tiny children at the beginning of the year but by the end is just second nature after doing it every week in the Goodbye song.

Goodbye Song by The Learning Station

A goodbye song for older kids, this is a fun rap of different ways to say goodbye using animal rhymes. Some of these are really funny and the kids will love them. You could also challenge them to invent other ways to say goodbye using animal rhymes and then add these to the song at the end of the lesson. I’ve found that older children much prefer rapping to singing so this is a good way to get them doing that and using their imagination and English skills.

Goodbye School Song by Dream English

A fun action song to dance along to. It practices what you’ve been doing in class, spelling and different actions. It’s a fun song for all ages and a great way to finish lessons if you’re teaching in a school. You could adapt the actions to your lesson or change the people you say goodbye to and include the children’s names or other people they might see at school.

Let’s Tidy Up by Amanda’s Action Club

This is a fun song to let everyone know it’s time to tidy up and go home. You can sing it together while you’re all cleaning up the classroom and it will make going home preparation a lot more fun. It’s a good way to practice names of classroom equipment too so children know the names of the objects they are using and where to find them.

Time to Say Goodbye by Terina 2000

End your class with an infectious western themed Goodbye song sung to the music of She’ll be coming round the mountain. Get your kids to find their inner cowboys and invent a dance to go along with this and find some cowboy hats for them to wear. Fun for all age groups, this song will make everyone go home with a smile on their face. This is another song that would be great to do as part of a show for parents to show them how much fun you have in your classes.

Goodbye Song by The Singing Walrus

This is such a sweet song and has a really cute video to go along with it. It’s easy enough for little kids to sing and is a good way of calming them down after a hectic, action packed lesson. It’s another song that you could use while you’re tidying up to make it a bit more fun and get the kids into going home mode.

Shotgun by George Ezra

For some reason, most kids seem to love this song. I don’t know if it’s the rhythm or the lyrics but they love singing along to it. So this would be a great song to make your official going home song. Even if the words are a bit complicated, once they’ve sung it a few times, they’ll have got the hang of it and they probably already know a lot of it anyway. Get the children to invent some actions too and you have a perfect going home song.

The Goodbye Song for Kids by ELF Kids Videos

Another catchy song that is easy to learn for little children and is fun to sing at the end of your lesson. You can add actions to make it a bit more interesting or dance in a circle holding hands and waving to each other. Or even get two children to make an arch and the others to dance under it singing. It’s one of those songs that you will find yourself singing to yourself for the rest of the day.

Cool Down by Sticky Kids

If you’ve had a lesson where you’ve been doing lots of movement, sport or dancing, you might want to end your class with a cool down routine. This is a good one for calming down excited children and giving them a good stretch. It’s also good for going over parts of the body and actions. If you do this after your more active lessons, you’ll be sending home very tired but very calm and relaxed children.

Let It Go Sing-Along by Official Disney UK

Well, why not? It’s not one of the traditional EFL ESL goodbye songs. However, if you’ve got a class that loves singing, this is a great one to let them have a go at and end the lesson on a high point. Everyone knows the tune, the words are a little complicated for English learners but you’ve got them here on the screen. If you do it often enough, for the end of the year, the kids will be word perfect and you’ll have a really impressive song for your End of Year Show.

So, that’s my favorite ways to end a class. Obviously, you don’t always have to use the same one and you can adapt them for different types of classes.
