Space is a really exciting topic to do in a class with kids. It’s also a really versatile subject so you can adapt it to lots of different vocabulary or grammatical points and to all age groups. In this collection of EFL ESL Space songs for children, you will find songs about the moon, the planets, astronauts and rockets and everything you need for a trip into space. So get your helmet and your space boots and get ready for an exciting journey into space!

Round and Round | Space Song by Pinkfong

This is a really good song to introduce the idea of the solar system and the movement of the Earth to small children. You could combine it with a lesson on shapes and colors and make a model of the solar system with different colored planets moving around the sun. It’s also a really good song to get the kids up and dancing. Make each child be a different planet and let them all move round and round the sun while you sing it.

Planets and Moon Song by Little Baby Bum

I love this catchy song! It’s a really good way of talking about travelling to the moon and what you can do there. Get the kids jumping and hopping as though they were really on the moon and practice all those action verbs. Can you swim on the moon? Can you jump?

Zoom Zoom Zoom We’re Going To The Moon by The Kiboomers

I use this song as part of my Hello routine if I am doing a series of lessons on space. It’s one of the good general EFL ESL space songs for children to introduce a lesson and start learning the vocabulary. It even has a countdown from 10 to 0 which you could use as part of a game and to practice numbers.

We’re Going To The Moon by Jingaloo Music

If you’re planning a trip to the moon, what do you need to bring? And what can you do when you get there? This song would be useful if this was the subject of your lesson as it covers everything from clothing in space to actions. Plan your trip by making a list of space clothes and all the other equipment you will need. Then you can take a class trip and record everything you do and see on the moon.

Space Song Rocket Ride by Barefoot Books

This song is based on a book but even if you don’t have the book to use in class, the video is lovely and you could easily use it as a story time for a space lesson. It’s one of those stories where you have to remember all the things that came before so is a great way for the kids to learn and memorize vocabulary.

Numbers Song | Space Rocket Ship by Little Baby Bum

Practice counting down from 10 to 0 and blasting off with your rocket into space. If you are making rockets in class, you could sing this song together and make them all take off. Small children might have a problem counting backwards at first. This is a good way to make it more fun and less daunting.

“I’m So Hot”, The Sun Song by StoryBots / Netflix Jr

If you’re learning about space and the solar system with older children and want a song that is a bit less childish, this would be a good choice. Let the kids all be different planets revolving around the sun while the sun sings his song. If you like this one, there is another rap in this series about the planets. I included it in my collection of Geography songs.

Planet Moon and Stars by Sesame Street

This is a sweet song and video that would be nice to sing for a show or for parents. You could do lots of actions together to make it into a story. It would be easy enough for little children too. Let the kids imagine that they are travelling through space on a rocket. What can they see? How do they feel? Ask them to draw a picture of their adventure or write a story if they are older.
