Do You Like Broccoli Ice Cream? by Super Simple Songs

You probably all know this one and I had to start with it. It’s a food song that all kids love and can sing along to without any problems. They love the thumbs-up and the yucky and it’s a really good way of learning different food vocabulary. What you might not know is that this is just one of a whole series of the same type of song. So you have Do you like Spaghetti Yoghurt?, Do you like Lasagna Milkshakes? and Do you Like Pickle Pudding? They’re all based on the same concept and all have the same funny videos. You could make up your own version too. Get the kids to invent crazy food combinations and then sing the song with these.

Are You Hungry? by Super Simple Songs

An easy to sing song to introduce the question “Are you hungry?” to little children. You can then teach them the answer “yes, I am” or “no, I’m not” plus a few simple food words for fruit which are in the song. You could change these to any food item you want to learn with your class, other fruit or vegetables or something completely different.

I’m Hungry by Maple Leaf Learning

This song looks at how to say what you want to eat when you’re hungry. It’s actually quite unusual in that it looks at “proper” food like stew and pie and not just fruit and vegetables or desserts. You could use it with your class and then maybe do role plays about ordering food in restaurants or making food at home. It’s easy to learn for even very little kids and could be adapted to any kind of food or drink.

Vegetable Song by Singing Walrus

Do you want to make some vegetable soup? This song will teach you the names of the vegetables you’ll need and the chopping actions to make the soup. As usual from the Singing Walrus, it’s a catchy song to sing and dance to in the kitchen while you’re cooking. It gives a good selection of vegetables that your class might not have learned before and you could always add more.

Fruit Song for Children by Nursery Rhymes Songs

This song is sung to the tune of The wheels on the bus. It looks at different fruits, their shape and color and where they grow. It’s easy to sing and learn and gives you the chance to look at lots of different vocabulary in one song.

5 Hungry Ants by The Kiboomers

I did this song with my class of 3 year olds a few weeks ago and they absolutely loved it. They thought the sneezing was hilarious and really liked telling the story. We were learning about ants but you could use this song in lots of different lessons: about picnics, about summertime, about food, about ants and insects. We learned it together and then as we sang it, the children took turns to be the ants marching through the food and dropping out one by one.

Meal Time Song for Kids by Nerd Dad Music

This is a rap about healthy eating which would probably be fun with older kids. The words are quite funny and the animals in the video introduce different foods and the concept of healthy eating. Maybe your class could create their own rap about food after watching this. Or you could use it to talk about table manners and how we should behave when we’re eating.

Cook by Pinkfong! Kids’ Songs

Let’s make pancakes together with Pinkfong! This song will very simply teach you the ingredients and the actions to make pancakes. It’s nothing very complicated but if you’re learning about or actually making pancakes, it would be a good introduction to a real recipe. Otherwise you could use it as a fun way to end a lesson where you’ve been making pancakes.

Hungry Caterpillar Rap by letsplaykidsmusic.com

This is a fun way to learn about the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It’s a rap that you can sing to the tune of Down in the Jungle. You’ve got the words and music here in the link as well as some other ideas of activities to do based on the story. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a classic story for children and is brilliant for learning about fruit, colors, caterpillars and butterflies and many other things. This song is a bit different from the usual videos but it would be really good fun to learn with a class and an excellent accompanying activity if you’re reading the book with your class.

Herbivore Carnivore Omnivore by Mr R’s Songs for Teachers

My classes all absolutely love this song. I’ve caught them singing it to themselves at odd moments during the year when we’ve been doing completely non-related activities. We also managed to get told off once for singing too loudly when I was using it in a school and the kids were a bit over enthusiastic. It’s a great way to teach about what animals eat and different kinds of animals. I like to use it with flashcards and sing the refrain while pointing at different animals. Then I stop on one card and the class have to tell me what that animal eats.
